Retro Wind J Bass Pickup

Monty’s Retro Wind J-Bass set is our tastefully tweaked take on vintage J-Bass tone. We’ve based these off the pickups from a rather tasty 70’s J-bass, adding just a touch more fatness and output to create a really versatile set of pickups that perfectly balance clarity and warmth.

Like so many single coil pickups of the era, the original pickups had amazing cut and clarity, but the bridge pickup was a little on the thin side. We’ve left the neck pickup pretty true to the original, but we’ve made the bridge pickup slightly taller, allowing us to put a few more winds onto the coil without losing any top end. The result is an incredibly well balanced, punchy pickup set that can easily cover a vast tonal expanse.

Like all our single coil pickups, our Retro Winds are only partially potted. This keeps the centre of the coil free from wax, resulting in increased clarity and responsiveness. The neck pickup is RWRP for a hum cancelling middle position.
