Hello there, you seem to have found yourself on the about page of Monty’s online abode; do come on in and get to know us.
Based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Monty’s is a team of talented luthiers, musicians and coffee makers headed by Matt Gleeson. Matt started luthiering over 20 years ago, under the guidance of Charlie Chandler, Brinsley Schwarz, Ian Allerton and Paul Herman. A merry band of tinkerers, we love fixing things, making bad jokes and listening to good music along the way.
Monty’s pickups were conceived after a period of extensive measuring, thinking, re-measuring (and more thinking) by Matt. Monty’s is a repair shop, and we’ve been fortunate enough to have seen a lot of vintage pickups over the years; all of our vintage-style pickups are modelled off real pickups that we have worked on, repaired and –most importantly- been inspired by.
Equally, we’re not completely stuck in the 1950s! We make virtually every kind of pickup imaginable, and use both traditional and modern techniques to create consistent, quality pickups. On the off-chance that a perusal of our products leaves your fancies un-tickled, do give us a call and we can wind whatever you are lusting after.
We have recently released a twin JFET boost pedal, with an effects loop, called the MORE!. We also have two unique guitar waxes available for rejuvenating and ageing your fingerboards.
Clients include Dave Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Radiohead, Biffy Clyro, Band of Skulls, Mike Vennart, The Subways, The Staves, Dave Gregory, Bill Steer, Camel, Nick McCabe, Bernard Butler, Kasabian, Katie Melua, We Are Scientists, Haim, Robbie McIntosh, Tim Pierce, Terry Britten, Ruts DC, The Temperance Movement, Vintage Trouble, The Duke Spirit, Pat Metheny, and many more.
