'61 Mini Humbucker Pickup

Monty’s ’61 Mini Humbucker is our recreation of the earliest (and best) PAF mini humbucker set that we’ve ever got our hands on. Essentially a shrunk down version of a traditional humbucker, these pickups have plenty of snarl and top end clarity and slightly more focus than a regular sized humbucker.

These pickups have a sonic character akin to regular PAF Humbucker with a touch more mid-range poke. When pushed, they almost bark like a good Les Paul Jr. and can chime as well as any single coil. We honestly think that they sound pretty much perfect, the best of a single coil and a humbucker rolled into one pickup.

The mini-humbucker is a pickup shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding. Whilst most people are familiar with it from the late 60’s Les Paul Deluxe, it was first used in the early 60’s on Epiphone guitars, after their acquisition by Gibson in 1957. The mini-humbucker shouldn't be confused with the Epiphone ‘New Yorker’ (technically called the ToneSpectrum), a single coil pickup that was phased out after Gibson bought Epiphone. Monty’s mini-hums are modelled on the pickups from a ’61 Epiphone Crestwood Custom. This is by far the earliest mini-humbucker loaded guitar we’ve ever seen and -as far as we can work out- pretty much the first model ever to be fitted with them.
