Monty’s NOS paper in oil caps are really the best that we’ve heard, an ideal upgrade for your current caps. Available in 0.01uf, 0.015uf and 0.022uf.
At Monty’s, we would go to the ends of the earth to make your guitars sound as good as possible. Happily, we only had to go to Russia. We are very excited to announce that we have sourced a large supply of NOS Russian Paper in oil capacitors that sound, well… simply fantastic.
Unlike ceramic or polyester capacitors, which tend to sound either too harsh or too muffled, these capacitors sound smooth and full, retaining top end clarity over the full sweep of the tone pot; they will breathe new life into your tone knobs, giving you incredibly musical sounds all the way from ten through to zero.
These capacitors were made in Russia in the late 70s/early 80s and are in NOS (new old stock) condition, meaning that they have never been used. Manufactured to military specifications, these caps have a tolerance of +/- 10% and are available in 0.022uf, 0.015uf and 0.01uf.
The value of the caps makes a big difference to the effect they have. Simply put, the higher the cap value, the more pronounced the treble roll-off effect will be when rolling down the tone knob. At Monty’s, we like to use 0.022uf caps on nearly everything, but we’ve found that using a 0.015uf cap for the neck pickup of a humbucker guitar is a really nice little mod; neck humbuckers can tend to get a bit muddy, so the smaller cap can really help to retain clarity. The 0.01uf caps are a bit of an unusual one, but they can be great on guitars that have a slightly darker tone. As ever, if you are uncertain which caps you need, feel free to give us call or shoot us an email (Please don’t actually shoot us, it might hurt!).
